Balls & Strikes Magazine
9/18/2009

The September 2009 issue of Balls & Strikes Magazine, the official publication of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), is now available online. Visit http://asasoftball.com/communications/ballsandstrikes.asp to download the magazine in the Ezine format or as a PDF.

Inside the magazine, which has the ASA National Championships as the highlighted feature, you will extensive coverage of ASA summer events including the Border Battle and the World Cup of Softball. A tribute to Bill Plummer, who is retiring after more than 30 years of service to the ASA, and national office profiles are also in the September 2009 issue.

The magazine also contains a profile on the Illinois ASA, which consistently stands out as one of the most active and thriving local associations. The Illinois ASA had 5,362 Junior Olympic teams registered in 2008, ranking it behind only California and Texas, and 4,365 adult teams, putting it just out of the top 10.

"In Illinois our Junior Olympic program has grown by leaps and bounds," said Don Brewer, commissioner of the Illinois ASA. "We have a great team who works exclusively with our Junior Olympic program to grow it so our registration always goes up."

Check out the issue at http://asasoftball.com/communications/ballsandstrikes.asp for more from ASA including the new "Ask the Experts" section that allows fans to send in questions and have them answered by the national office.
