10/28/2009

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — E.T. Colvin of Columbus, Miss., was named the North American vice president of the International Softball Federation (ISF) at the XXIV International Softball Federation Congress last week in Margarita Island, Venezuela.

“It was a surprise to be elected to the ISF Board of Directors,” Colvin said. “ASA President-Elect Andy Dooley, Warren Jones, the commissioner of Ohio ASA and myself went to Venezuela to try to improve relations between the ASA and the ISF. I feel we had a very successful week.”

Colvin has been a member of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), the National Governing Body for the sport of softball in the United States, for over 20 years. From 2003-05, Colvin served as the ASA president. He is currently serves on the board of directors and is the commissioner of the Mississippi ASA.

“E.T. is very dedicated to and knowledgeable about the sport of softball, which is the type of person we need serving on the executive board of the ISF,” ASA Executive Director Ron Radigonda said. “His election is something that everyone at the ASA is excited about. Having E.T. as the North American Vice President ensures that the voice of the United States is heard in the worldwide efforts of the ISF.”

Former ASA executive director Don Porter was reelected as a president after running unopposed. In the position of secretary general, Low Beng Choo of Malaysia was elected to replace the retiring Andy Loechner, a past ASA president. Loechner became ISF secretary general in 1987.

“It is a good thing for both organizations having an ASA member on the ISF Board,” Colvin said. “I look forward to the opportunity.”

Also, two individuals were announced as recipients of the prestigious ISF Medal of Honor. Retiring ISF 1st Vice President Clovis Lodewijks (Netherlands Antilles) and Loechner became just the eleventh and twelfth recipients of the award.

The next ISF Congress will take place in October 2011, with the site to be announced at a later date.
