ASA Recommended Guidelines for Ballpark Lighting
In response to queries posed by organizations intending to construct new ballparks, or perform major
retrofits on existing facilities, the Amateur Softball Association has adopted recommended guidelines
regarding lighting of these facilities for athletic competitions.
The ASA has striven to incorporate the most current data available regarding lighting, electrical, and
structural support systems into these guidelines so that implementers of such systems will achieve
optimum results.
This publication sets forth recommended guidelines, designed to the actual playing conditions and other
considerations, which goal is to add to the durability, energy efficiency, environmental sensitivity and cost
effectiveness of the facility itself. While each and every one of these guidelines will not be achievable for
every operator, because of economic considerations or physical limitations imposed by the existing facility,
overall, the implementation of these guidelines and features should heighten the players’and fans’ positive
experience at the park.
